The central idea in silk pillowcase care is to reduce friction, pulling, high heat, and harsh alkaline cleaners. Because dyes, finishes, and construction vary, always follow the product care label first.
Check before washing
Confirm whether the label permits hand or machine washing. Inspect stains, seams, and any zipper. Separate dark and light colors, and test an inconspicuous area before the first wash if colorfastness is uncertain.
Wash gently
For hand washing, use cool water or the low temperature allowed by the label and a small amount of detergent suitable for silk. Press gently rather than rubbing, soaking for a long time, or wringing. If machine washing is allowed, use a mesh bag and a delicate cycle, away from rough items and exposed hardware.
Remove water and dry
Lay the pillowcase on a clean towel and press to absorb water without twisting. Reshape it and dry flat or as directed, away from strong sunlight and high-heat tumble drying.
Iron and store with care
If ironing is permitted, use the low setting specified by the label and work from the reverse side, preferably while the fabric is slightly damp. Store only when fully dry and protect it from sharp objects, moisture, and heavy compression. Consistent gentle care is more useful than occasional aggressive cleaning.
