How to Fold and Store a Silk Scarf with Fewer Creases

Silk scarves are light and flexible, but long periods of pressure along the same fold can still create visible creases. Good storage is less about elaborate folding and more about keeping the scarf clean, dry, protected from pressure, and supported without sharp bends.

Before storing, make sure the scarf is fully dry and handle any perfume, skincare, or perspiration residue according to its care label. For short-term storage, fold it loosely along its natural width and place clean acid-free tissue between layers. If drawer space allows, a loose roll can reduce hard fold lines.

Avoid placing heavy items on top and skip rough clips that may snag the fabric. Store lighter colors away from direct light, moisture, and sustained heat. If hanging is appropriate, use a smooth hanger with a broad contact area and change the hanging point occasionally.

For travel, roll the scarf loosely, place it in a clean fabric pouch, and pack it where it will not be heavily compressed. Unpack it soon after arrival. Allow light creases to relax naturally first, and follow the product care label before applying an iron or steam.
